Humayun’s Tomb

American president visited this place during his visit to India. I was not well aware about the importance of Humayun’s Tomb. Hence decided to check it out. Humayun was one of the Mughal Emperors. His wife Hamida Banu Begum builds his tomb in 1562. Beside main monument the campus has several other tombs of subsequent Mughals.
This is a huge complex of Mughal architecture and typical Persian gardens. Sandstone is used on very large scale to build this place.

This monument set an example to subsequent Mughal architecture in India. The tomb was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1993.
