Meeting the Guinness Book of World Record Holder

No... It is not about the recent television soap.

It is about an artist... a sculptor Mr. Anant Khairnar. I heard a lot about him but never got an opportunity to see his work of art. Finally last sunday I visited his studio.

It was absolutely amazing to the see sculptures made out of cotton wool. Like any typical non-artist person; my first question was "Is there any POP or any other material is used for structuring?" I guess this question is alomst asked by 90% of the people and 99% of the time answer is "Yes". But this time answer was "NO".

That raised my curiosity level. And by that time I understood why it is included in Guinness Book Records.

These sculptures are ENTIRELY made from cotton wool. Some of them are more than 15 years old. Absolutely intact and very much kept on open display.

They are made in such a way (This is secret; you better ask him) that they don't attract moisture and dust can be easily cleaned.

Apart from several small statues; there was a huge 7 1/2 feet Mahatma Gandhi's statue; this is the one which created record in 1999. It took him 2 1/2 years to complete the staue.

Since last 25 years he is creating these master pieces and even teaching the interested people.

The cotton wool sculptures can be great for gifting. So if you are interested in buying these for gifting or for yourself or you want to learn making them or you want your own statue in cotton wool or just want to visit his studio; just drop a comment on this post or send me an email at

I will provide you the contact details.

He was recently honoured by the cricket maestro Sachin Tendulkar who had invited him to his residence in Mumbai, to praise his work. He gifted Sachin & his mother a statue of lord ganpati.
